There are many causes of lower back pain. It is important to know what structures are injured in your back injury before starting an exercise regime. Disc injuries are common in the lower back. If you experience numbness or tingling in the saddle area and or a loss of bladder or bowel control you should contact your local Accident and Emergency unit immediately.
Treatment of lower back pain may involve joint mobilization/manipulation, Soft tissue release, Acupuncture, stretching and strengthening exercises. There can be other structures referring pain to your lower back as well so it is always best to have an assessment to diagnose the injury first.
